Root Cause Analysis

The Bible says In the beginning, there was the word. In Classical Greek, it really means something like "At first, there was a concept out of which grew all other things."

I spent a lot of years debugging my wetware -- doing therapy or otherwise examining how my life grew out of the things I thought. It was clear to me that in order to fix my life, I first had to fix my ideas.
That's the start of the About page on Memome Project, a website of mine previously subtitled The Architecture of Ideas.

I think the American psychic Edgar Cayce said "Thoughts are things." and "The mind is the builder."

My recollection is A Course in Miracles was about figuring out what the hell is wrong with YOU and your stupid ideas so you could get out your own way.

I recently included this quote in a post somewhere else:
If you could kick the person in the pants responsible for most of your trouble, you wouldn't sit for a month.
-- Theodore Roosevelt
And Memome Project quotes Dr. Martin Luther King Jr: Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we do not see.

It's one part very practical, one part seemingly woo. (Or ACTUALLY woo if you think astrology is hocum, because my astrological chart SAYS I need my freedom to be healthy.)

I have a life threatening respiratory condition.
I literally need freedom to breathe. My lifestyle as a homemaker was killing me. Getting better defacto rights by getting divorced has enabled me to heal physically and breathe easier, in spite of being poor ever since the husband moved out.

So it's kind of like saying physical health is evidence of defects in your mental models.

Women routinely have choices out of reach. That curtailment impacts how you eat, where you live etc.

So it seems really voodoo magic type stuff but it's more like figuring out how to read the consequences of the systemic issues and infer cause.

And race and medical care:

A physician did an interview years ago on Sixty Minutes. She moved to a poverty stricken rural part of America. When she had a patient with an injury and learned it's because the porch is damaged and they don't have the funds to fix it, she would try to find an organization to fix the porch.

That's the crux of what I do. I do root cause analysis and in many cases the answer is "You have stupid ideas."

And to me that's EXACTLY like "The porch needs to be repaired." Because that's why you're hurting, either figuratively or sometimes literally.

It's not religion. I'm not a fan of religion. To me, religion is a stupid idea.

It's debugging the wetware. It's figuring out what stuff is in your head leading to the problems you are having, medically or otherwise.

The movie Back to the Future is basically about this. The entire future is better because his parents get their minds changed.

I have one post about it.

Ditto the movie Bedazzled.
