First deaths reported in cyclosporiasis outbreak

Michigan has reported more than 11,000 cases of cyclosporiasis, and two people have died.

“Two deaths have been identified as part of the cyclosporiasis outbreak affecting Michigan. According to medical records, both individuals had significant underlying health conditions that may have been impacted by cyclosporiasis and dehydration. 

Deaths from cyclosporiasis are far from common, as the infection is “generally not a life-threatening illness,” the department said. A total of 11,234 cases have been reported in the state, including 193 people who had been hospitalized.

Parasitic infections trend towards "opportunistic" behavior. That means: Like wolves, they feed on the weak and the old. 

Shocking plot twist no one could have possibly predicted.  

Someone should be checking treatment resistant cases for other issues and putting together a pile of evidence and checklist for what to check for.
